Skratch Bastid & DJ Crum - Practice #DownBadSkratchChallenge

www.SkratchSchool.com presents The #DownBadSkratchChallenge. On a recent European run of dates, Skratch Bastid stopped into Vienna, Austria and linked up with Skratch School member DJ Crum. A freestyle scratch session over the "Down Bad" instrumental (the song used for the current Skratch School challenge) ensued, and here are some highlights of the back-and-forth conversation using the classic "AAHHH" sound.

The newly released "Revenge Of The Dreamers 3" compilation features a heavy posse cut titled "Down Bad" featuring J. Cole, J.I.D, Young Nudy, Johnny Venus & Bas. The beat propels the song, and it lends itself well to freestyle forms of any type. Download the instrumental today at SkratchSchool.com

L 33 - The Door (Eatbrain)

LISTEN >>>>> https://soundcloud.com/eatbrain/l-33-the-door-eatbrain086

Long had rumors abounded of places where the veil between worlds was thin, where one could walk into other planes as though simply stepping into their own home. Such points of crossing were said to be rare, and the few that occurred naturally were secrets well kept by those who knew of their location for they held the potential for immense power in their shimmering surfaces. Each such point was said to be guarded by a Keeper, unknowable beings from neither side of the threshold who kept watch over all that passed through, their existence proven only by the remains of those deemed unworthy that lay before their lairs.

For one who possessed apt knowledge of such places, passage through such portals was indeed possible with proper preparation. On rare occasions, when the energies of the earth rested in perfect balance, such portals would appear in the most isolated portions of the world. Those who could foresee this would wait patiently in such places for the day of crossing, preparing themselves for this most unlikely of opportunities. In focused ritual they would etch symbols into the gate’s position, warding them from the Keeper’s wrath. As the portal appeared they would take the momentus single step into the beyond, striding confidently into a world unknown as they passed through THE DOOR.

EATBRAIN veteran L 33 returns to the label with his next solo EP, THE DOOR, as he continues to champion his energetic tech focused sound on the like minded label. With a legacy built on EATBRAIN across releases such as 2016’s Karate LP & a slew of further EPs on the label, THE DOOR carries on in this tradition with four tracks emblazoned with powerful sonic presence by the longtime EATBRAIN collaborator

Jet Star Meets Hospital (Album Mini Mix By Nu:Tone)

Buy or stream 'Jet Star Meets Hospital' here: https://HospitalRecords.lnk.to/JetStaryc

The world of classic reggae, dancehall and bashment collides with drum & bass for a set of stellar remixes on the ‘Jet Star Meets Hospital’ compilation. The album features sixteen first-class reworks from London Electricity, S.P.Y, Danny Byrd, Nu:Tone, Urbandawn and more; all taking a 170BPM step-out on iconic reggae artists such as Barrington Levy, Alton Ellis, John Holt, Beenie Man, Horace Andy and more.

From dancehall classic to dancefloor banger, Hospital mainstay and esteemed soul-selector Nu:Tone applies his production savviness to Barrington Levy’s seminal reggae anthem, ‘Here I Come'. Stimulated from the ground up with a warm, rolling bassline and kitted out with skittering amens to boot.

Fresh from his huge cover of the Beatles classic ‘Come Together’, Urbandawn steps into the fold with an utterly outrageous, monster remix of Chaka Demus’ ‘Forward & Pull Up’. This one speaks for itself, in Urbandawn’s trademark punchy, crunchy style.

The album is also the original home for Benny L’s infamous John Holt ‘Police In Helicopter’ remix, which shot to Beatport’s #1 spot across all genres, making both drum & bass and Beatport history.

The 'Jet Star Meets Hospital' project is the collaborative workings of the legendary reggae label Jet Star and leading drum & bass imprint Hospital Records. Also featured are hot and heavy remixes from Inja, Whiney, Saxxon, Particle, TI, Quadrant, Kid Hops & Iris, Pete Cannon, Double O & Mantra, and Think Tonk.

Other formats include CD, digital and streaming.

Joe Ford // Abstract Places EP (Eatbrain) OUT NOW!

LISTEN >>>>>>> https://soundcloud.com/eatbrain/sets/eatbrain085-joe-ford-abstract
Beyond the reach of both time & space lay a land not bound by such restrictive rules, in which all manner of phenomena beyond that of the material ordinary were possible. Within this distant realm the so called “laws” of nature disobeyed themselves, warping the perceptions of any who had managed to successfully undertake the multiplanar journey to reach its impossible location. Herein, stone grew with the vivacity of plants through air that seemed to surround any being with an aberrant curiosity, as though inquisitive of what sought to inhale its essence. The waters of the world, such as they were, provided a more sturdy footing that that of the tumultuous earth from which gouts of flame occasionally appeared, perfectly inert as though frozen in time.

Whilst the journey could be made, true navigation through this plane was impossible for beings of the human material plain as evidenced by the seemingly mummified figures that occasionally appeared across its lands. Prisoners of endless age, their bodies held the positions of their final waking moments, trapped halfway through motions & expressions that would never find completion. Their faces bore no pain, their bodies no wounds. The sounds of their ends, it was said, were all of the evidence that they had passed. Within these ABSTRACT PLACES, such dying cries reverberated endlessly, each adding their own sonic character to the quiet din of death that filled the air.

JOE FORD makes his Eatbrain debut with ABSTRACT PLACES, his first solo release both on the label and since his 2018 LP Colours in Sound. LUMBERING BEAST opens the EP upon the roaring tonalities of its gargantuan bassline, backed by the determined strides of its steady drumbeat. THE END decries an apocalyptic demise with its sinister synth arpeggio and the rending sweeps of its bassline, which cleave through the track with unparalleled might. URGENCY wastes no time in rushing to fill the void left by its predecessor, speeding forth with a torrent of snares surrounded by an electrified sonic atmosphere. WAR MARCH issues the command to surrender in the face of its unrestrained might, before delivering a bassline barrage that closes the EP with finality. With ABSTRACT PLACES, JOE FORD holds nothing back across his first four track appearance on the EATBRAIN label.

Tenchu - Lenny Carlson EP (IN:DEEP)

LISTEN >>>>>https://soundcloud.com/indeepofficial/sets/tenchu-lenny-carlson-ep-in
TENCHU presents his newest solo release on IN:DEEP MUSIC with the LENNY CARLSON EP, a five track work driven by his umbral, funk influenced sound. Continuing in the spirit of his previous works on Mainframe Recordings and frequent collaborations with Breakpitt on IN:DEEP MUSIC, the LENNY CARLSON EP presents a further five tracks upon which TENCHU displays his deft sonic expertise.

ACCESS CONTROL opens the EP with a single word mantra before sweeping upwards into an exacting bassline melody borne atop a strutting beat. INTOXICATED then trades the precision of the former for a series of flowing sonic textures punctuated by the reverberating interjections of its sharply crafted bass and snares. The titular LENNY CARLSON displays electric splash of synthwave influence before warping its warm tones into a singularly coarse & dominating low end force. The shimmering facade of MIRRORCASE then projects an illusion of tranquility soon dispelled by the rushing intensity of its rapid percussion, and is followed by the breakbeat bravado of TIC TAC TOE as it closes the EP in a flurry of obscure sonics.

TENCHU delivers five uniquely crafted audio sequences with the LENNY CARLSON EP, synthesizing their multifaceted sonic palettes within the depths of his sound as he sculpts a cohesive form from their otherwise disparate elements.
