#BastidsBBQ Vancouver 2018 w/ Biz Markie, DJ Manwell, Skiitour, The Whoo...

Nobody Beats The Biz. The 4th annual Vancouver #BastidsBBQ was the perfect way to end off our 2018 Canadian BBQ season. Just watch!

Vibes were high as the sun defeated a previous week of clouds & rain to shine on us for an afternoon. Ai Hashimoto & Rhek started our day off with great vinyl selections, followed by a heavy King Of The Grill bboy/bgirl session (I love playing breaks for those!). Sets from DJ Nick Bike, Skiitour, and The Whooligan as the sun set couldn’t have been a better fit, and the dance floor responded accordingly. The insane technical abilities of DJ Manwell were balanced by his innate sense of party-rocking, prompting Biz Markie to join him on stage right before the hip-hop legend took over the decks. Biz treated the crowd to classic beats, samples, singing (as only Biz can), remixes of impossible acapellas, and hilarious blends. I got on stage to follow him up, and he didn’t want to leave, so we got into a battle. You can’t plan this stuff, it just happens. I ended the day playing a set of BBQ classics from the stops this year, routines, and some Vancouver exclusives you’ll probably never hear again. We ended the night off inside Tabu at the afterparty as Nick, Julio, and Manny took us out oh so nicely.

Can you tell I’m excited about this? Thank you to EVERYONE who came out and made this day what it was. Shout out to Downlow Chicken Shack, Def 3, The Turntemple, Hip-Hop Vancouver, and Miss Erica Dee for their contributions to the day and to our sponsors Red Bull Canada, Pabst Canada, Nude Vodka Soda for making the whole process possible.

Video by Chané Neveling — who killed it this year! Thank you 🙏🏼 See you next year, y’all...

Krakota - Hot Rain (feat. Dynamite MC)

Buy or stream 'See For Miles EP' here: https://Krakota.lnk.to/SeeForMilesEPyb

Krakota, one of Hospital Records’ most electrifying DJs, returns to the fold after his incredible debut album ‘Strange System’ with his long-awaited ‘See For Miles’ EP. More than ever before, his production provides a versatile set of drum & bass styles with a devilish 4-track concoction of upfront danger and liquid grace.

Kicking the EP straight into gear is the absolute screamer ‘Hot Rain’. Prepare for this track to steamroll through a system with its relentless bassline and rare vocal feature from Reprazent legend and Hospital hype-man Dynamite MC.

‘Call Back’, however, rolls out smoother than butter, adding funk flavours to the EP and makes for the perfect juxtaposition to his full-throttle bangers. Keeping up the tempo is another weapon for the club ‘Fever Dreams’. Wobbly sub and rugged mid-range bass notes work together in this up-front stepper.

The final and title track ‘See for Miles’ sees this release home with elegance and grace. Depth, musicality, exquisite progression and a humming bassline.
