Smash The House has a reputation for bringing new artists to the fore, and this track is another shining example of label heads Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s ability to unearth exceptional talent. ‘Sunset’ is the first official track from the Brussels-based Magic Wand, and features mesmerising vocals from Australian Emma Carn, fresh from her releases on Armada Music sub-label The Bearded Man and Kontor Records last year, this debut collaboration showcasing the pair’s individual qualities expertly and setting them both up for a huge 2016.

‘Sunset’ begins by combining numerous layers of dreamy guitar licks, which, when entwined with Carn’s delicate, ethereal vocals, create a Tropical House anthem that is sure to make serious waves in the dance music scene and further afield. The pulsating bassline and straight up 4/4 beat, however, ensure that the track more than holds its own in a club, while the vocals in the breakdown are guaranteed to create a hands-in-the-air moment any time the track is played across international dancefloors and events worldwide this year.

While the pair both may be at the beginning of their journey into dance music, with backing already coming in from the likes of the scenes biggest hitters such as Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike and an undeniable ear for crafting hit music, 2016 looks on course to be the year Magic Wand and Emma Carn are two names on everybody’s lips. One thing is certain; it doesn’t look like the sun will be setting on either of their burgeoning careers any time soon.

The versatility DC Breaks deliver time and time again has been solidified with this next output. After igniting festival stages worldwide with the heartfelt crescendos of ‘Faithless’ and ‘Breathe’, which they dropped to crowds of thousands last year, they’ve decided to flip the switch. ‘Bad Flow’ and ‘Bambino’ are fiercely reminiscent of the records that made the duo infamous. And they’re returning to this signature sound, after reigning over the drum & bass genre’s musical diversity. 

‘Bad Flow’ is up first for the listener’s rude reawakening. Cut up by a robotic, ominous vocal sample which slips between grinding subs and jutting drum patterns, it’s a foreboding example of what to expect from the pair this summer. A grating construction of fluctuating beats and snapping snares, yet pumped full of stocky bass, it’s one of their most ominous records to date…

Rolling out next is ‘Bambino’, a clever take on its classic predecessor, one which still detonates crowds even years after its release. Similar samples are spliced and thrown into its mix, presenting a revamp that peddles itself on top of snapping kick-drum and steroid driven distortion. 

After closing the sold-out Alexandra Palace ‘Andy C All Night’ show last month, anyone who wasn’t present for their tear out assault will wish they had been. This single not only prepares you for their forthcoming shows – it also demonstrates what the producers have to offer in the coming months.
