June Miller shares the 'Ups & Downs' of the music industry with Bella Bass Fly!!!!!
Ups and downs!!! Bella Bass Fly is getting acquainted with Ram Records June Miller!!!! Please leave any questions or comments below!
1. Bella - What made you decide to go into music production?
June Miller-
It was really the thrill and challenge to make drum and bass essentially. I think one of the first tracks we heard was Noisia's first release on Vision which was 'The Tide/Concussion' and that blew us away. We also went to visit Blackout which is Black Sun Empires night in Utrecht which totally gave us a hunger for the music and to start writing it.
2.Bella - What challenges do you face in music production and the industry in general?
June Miller-
Within music production, we face a challenge every day and that's one of the most exciting parts! :D It changes every day or there is something new to try everyday so it is a constant challenge to try and keep bettering yourself. It requires tons of studio hours but that's also part of the fun! :) The music industry has treated us well I think. And just like the production it also changes quickly, so its all about keeping on your toes.
3.Bella - What do you like to do when you are not making music?
June Miller-
Not much really haha! Weekly we are in the studio pretty much all day, but down time is normally spent with girlfriends and family. I personally also like to play Chess and normally have at least one game a day to keep me sane.
4.Bella - Which venue is your favorite to play?
June Miller-
Ah there are so many but I think the best from last year was the Bikini club in Toulouse. The sound is amazing, it feels like your mixing in your bedroom and the crowd and crew are top class. Big love to the Toulouse Crew! <3
5. Bella - What ingredients make a show "epic" or "Unforgettable"
June Miller-
People, music, sound system and vibe (not in that order haha) - Its really tuff too make all of these elements perfect but when it does happen, its an incredible feeling.
6. Bella -What is the craziest thing to ever happen to you on tour?
June Miller-
haha well actually one doesn't spring to mind and luckily nothing serious has happened. I remember one time when I was flying from Paris, we were mid air and one of the engines started smoking! The pilot announced everything was fine, then two minutes later his tone slightly changed and announced we would be making an emergency stop at a local militarily airport! It was a bit of a shock, but got there in the end :D
7. Bella - Who has influenced you as an artist?
June Miller-
Wow so many! This happens every day and that's one of the wonderful things about music, its inspires. Every one from Hatebreed, to Steve Wonder to Arvo Part.
8. Bella - Who is your favorite artist personally?
June Miller;
Personally (Mark) I would say, Arvo Part. I can't explain why exactly but every time I listen to his music, it makes me want to write music myself. Its sometimes like my fuel.
9. Bella - What would you change about the music industry? Why?
June Miller-
I would change the culture where we are practically told what to buy. There is a lot of very very poor music which is really popular. Some of the production and general quality of some of the Top 40 songs is embarrassing. Big labels spend thousands on PR so we hear there track 10+ times on the radio everyday, they pop up in our social media feeds etc, etc.. when the music is actually really poorly executed. I would love to see that change in an ideal world.
10. Bella - What advice can you give to artists just breaking into the industry?
June Miller-
Work hard, learn and get prepared. All the information and tools are out there now. Just look around, be very keen and really put in the hours. You'll have days when your confidence is low but these are the times when you must keep pushing on.

Dub Police Class of 2014 - Out 23.02.15
Pre-order coming soon
Following on from the previous editions dating back to 2010, ’Dub Police Class of 2014’ is a celebration of music from the past year, with a broad range of tracks from a whole host of artists at the Dub Police camp.
2014 was yet another fantastic year for Dub Police, celebrating a decade since the label’s conception.
Following on from the previous editions dating back to 2010, ’Dub Police Class of 2014’ is a celebration
of music from the past year, with a broad range of tracks from a whole host of artists at the Dub Police
camp. Last year saw the hugely anticipated album project ‘500’ from the label’s founder Caspa, The
Others’ exciting take on the ‘MyStyle’ mix series, as well as a massive debut EP from newcomer Ethic
and much more. It was only right that we compiled ten tracks representing the year’s musical highlights
for our first release of 2015.
Following the label ethos of shining light on emerging talent from within the Dubstep scene, we kick
things off with newcomer Ethic and a standout track from his debut EP, ‘What Ya Call Me’. Subscape’s
massive tunes ‘Angels’ and ‘I Would Have Loved You’ are included, the latter receiving a stunning remix
from Los Angeles based producer AWE. Remix duties don’t stop there, with The Others’ dark and
futuristic re-shaping of Caspa’s track ‘Reach For The Sky’ featuring the incredible vocal talents of Diane
Charlemagne. Hertfordshire based duo Variations’ track ‘Endlessly Empty’ and Russian producer Oiki’s
‘Ratchet’ are also featured, along with The Others’ mighty track ‘Voyager’ and a heavyweight
collaboration with J:Kenzo on ‘The Prophecy’. No Dub Police compilation would be complete without
music from the big boss himself, Caspa. Taken from his new three-part album ‘500’ is the underground
banger ‘Submission’. Things are rounded off with ‘War Drum’ (Done Talkin’) featuring the vocal talents
of the legendary MC $pyda.
It’s been another huge year for the label, and ‘Dub Police Class of 2014’ is a prime example of why this
label has remained a cornerstone of Dubstep for so many years, and will remain to do so for many more
to come. Bring on 2015!
