RAYE - The making of 'Genesis.' (Vevo Footnotes) RAYE’s “Genesis.” is a statement of her humanity; a seven minute opus that ties her struggles to those of her generation. Themes of disconnection, heartbreak, depression, exhaustion and anxiety are dealt with in a three part song that, according to the singer, took two years to complete and was hard to let go. “The video was an absolute passion project for which we started brainstorming ideas in December 2023,” RAYE said in our Footnotes interview. “I knew I wanted this song to have a powerful visual to accompany it.” Directed by RAYE and Otis Dominique, the video first finds the Brit singer while she’s obsessing over her image in her room. Then it walks the viewers through crises, a hectic theatre performance, and the singer’s return to her Selmhurst roots.
