HASHIM - AL-NAAFIYSH - BONESBREAKS 808 RAW MIX
FRANKIE BONES
"The Soul. By reprogramming and isolating the raw 808 beats of Hashim, I could explain how important the Roland 808 Rhythm Composer was for most of the young DJ's in New York City in 1983. This beat was playing in my head 24/7 for many years. Electro which had evolved into Freestyle in the 1980's was our music. It had appeared that Chicago House and Detroit Techno may have never penetrated my ears had Al-Naafiysh was not written. Of course Detroit had Juan Atkins making music during that same time line. But we were not concerned with a straight kick drum and only really cared about Chicago House by layering breaks and more electro beats under it. That was our thing in New York City. Todd Terry made it cool and Bonesbreaks was also running in that same time line. In my teenage years I was friends with Omar Santana & Carlos Berrios. It was beats like these which fueled our passion to make music. And it never really went away."
