DJ Hatcha continues his succession of dubstep releases on Hatched with this next EP, featuring heavyweight dubstep producer Coki. Hatched is an imprint which is set to reignite dubstep’s audiences across the UK and beyond, so to have Coki enlisted for Hatched 12 proves how important these next twelve months will be for the label. A long-time contributor to the infamous DMZ group, Coki is revered across their genre, starting out as one of the scene’s originators and a musician who’s prided on his creation of its roots. This massive merging of minds is an explosive outcome for the 140bpm world.
Demolishing raves singularly and as Digital Mystikz, Coki is just as infamous behind the decks as he is in the studio. Having created many dancefloor classics, such as the esteemed Spongebob, he’s returned with three brand new cuts which are sure to also find their own place in the history books. Out selling capacity at many of the DMZ nights across the world’s capitals, it’s no surprise that his music has been distributed across crowd of thousands. And this EP will be no different.
The Croydon producer nods to his humble beginnings throughout Hatched 12. Although he’s picked up more contemporary production standards, the soul of dubstep hasn’t left his musicality. There’s no compromise, it’s still the underground sound which made him so notorious in the first place Jack Shaw and Trixx feature on Breathing, the first two step roller to introduce itself. With reggae horned undertones and a lumbering riddim, it’s the perfect reminder of why Coki has become a legendary name. Jack Shaw’s vocals add the melody, prodding with a hook that grabs you between layers.
Messenger comes next, with a stellar production standard and a constant drive of instrumentals and bounding kick. As the name suggests, Cool & Deadly is nastily slick, with a ragga-like sample pulling you deep into its subterranean basses. Hatched 12 is a return to form and with 2017 just over the horizon, the older style is once again set to take over. Not only for the artists involved, but also for imprints like Hatched, who have a host of special plans laid out for the coming year…
